The German producer price indices for spruce continued their upward trend from April in May. On average, the index rose by 6.9% compared to April to a level of 75.8 points. B-qualities recorded a plus of 6.6% to 79 points, of which 3 m lengths with 6.7% to 80.1 points and 4/5 m lengths with 2.7% to 78.7 points made different contributions.
C logs also picked up speed in May. The index rose by an average of 7.2% to 70.4 points, with 3 m lengths with 6.7% to 76.5 points slightly exceeding the 4/5 m lengths with 6.7% to 72.5 points.
Spruce pulpwood gained 4.2% in May to a value of 49.9 points, while softwood pulpwood held its level of 57.3 points. This resulted from the interaction with Douglas fir, which fell by 2.2% to 53.7 points, and pine, whose index fell by 3.3% to 66.9 points.
The spruce index rose by 14.2% year-on-year. B-qualities recorded an increase of 11.4%, to which 3 m lengths with 11.7% and 4/5 m lengths with 6.9% made different contributions. C trunks even gained an average of 25.5%, with 3 m lengths increasing by 34.5% and 4/5 m lengths by 23.7%. And the index for spruce pulpwood was 1.6% above the value for the same month last year.
